Donnie McDougall and The GuessWholigans

Donnie McDougall is a luminary of the Canadian music scene, celebrated for his influential contributions to the legendary band The Guess Who and his role as the frontman for the 1960s psychedelic-rock icons, Mother Tucker’s Yellow Duck.

A Storied Legacy

McDougall’s pivotal era with The Guess Who (1972–1976) saw the release of iconic albums including Live at the Paramount, Artificial Paradise, and No. 10. His artistry defined tracks such as “Take It Off My Shoulders,” “Follow Your Daughter Home,” and “Glace Bay Blues.”

His commitment to the band’s legacy was further cemented during the celebrated Runnin’ Back Thru Canada reunion tour (2000–2003), a period that coincided with The Guess Who’s induction into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Donnie himself was previously honored with an induction into Canada’s Walk of Fame in May 2001.

Before his stint with The Guess Who, Donnie was the creative heartbeat of the Vancouver-based Mother Tucker’s Yellow Duck. As lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist, he crafted the cult-classic albums Home Grown Stuff and Starting a New Day, weaving a rich tapestry of musical history that still resonates today.

The GuessWholigans: A New Era

In 2025, driven by a desire to return to his high-energy Rock N’ Roll roots, Donnie formed The GuessWholigans. This project isn’t a departure from his legacy, but an evolution—adding the driving beats and classic sounds that guarantee audiences a good time. After all, isn’t that what rock is all about?

To bring this vision to life, Donnie assembled a powerhouse lineup of veteran musicians:

• John Baxter: Long-time drummer providing the rock-solid pulse.
• Rob Rowe: The foundational groove on bass.
• James Elser: Keyboards, guitar, and vocals.
• Dan West: Steel guitar, synth horns, banjo, and vocals.
